AN OVERVIEW OF FEMININE MYSTICISM
Women’s Experience, Women’s Faith: Wisdom for All
Thursday, October 18, 10:00 am-2:00 pm
Registration is requested by October 11--after that, please call for space availability.
Presented by The Rev. Dr. Ken Harrington.
The 12th and13th centuries produced an unparalleled number of female mystics in Western Christianity. This period sets the stage for women to claim a new role of authority in an often-patriarchal church. In this special talk, we will look at characteristics and symbols of this period of feminine mysticism and talk about whether this has anything to offer us today in empowering not just women, but other minorities in the church as well.
MARY, THE MYSTICAL MOTHER
An Ecumenical Discovery
Friday, April 11, 10:00 am-2:00 pm
Registration is requested by April 4--after that, please call for space availability.
Presented by Sr. June Fitzgerald, OP and The Rev. Hilaire Henthorne.
Although Mary, the Mother of Jesus, has long been held in special reverence and intimate relationship by Roman Catholics, Protestants are just beginning to discover the blessings she offers. (See Blessed One: Protestant Perspectives on Mary, by Beverly Roberts Gaventa and Cynthia L. Rigby, Editors; Westminster John Knox, 2002.) A Dominican nun and a Presbyterian pastor will give us a view that transcends the boundaries, exploring Mary as the one who lights the way into mystery for all who seek the Divine.
Tuition, per session, payable in advance: $30 (includes lunch with the sisters).
Registrations submitted jointly by three (3) or more participants for the same session will qualify for a 10% group discount.
